The LA30 is a rotating loopstick antenna using active electronics to give high selectivity & gain. The tunable pre-selector ensures best possible weak signal reception and interference rejection. The LA30 comes standard with a Medium wave Loopstick that covers 410 kHz to 2050 kHz. Two optional loopsticks are available: a Long wave version that covers 110 kHz to 550 kHz, and a Tropical Band version that covers 1480 kHz to 7500 kHz. A hi-Q pre-selector eliminates interference from powerful nearby stations. A +15 dB pre-amplifier pulls in weak stations, while a 15 dB attenuator prevents overload when listening to strong stations. Rear switch can select either wall transformer input or a 9V internal AA battery pack. As on all Palstar products the front panel and top cover are powdercoated. Customer Review: "The LA30, with the tropical loop and longwave options, works great! Actually, the unit works better than I expected it would. The antenna is connected to a JRC NRD545 shortwave receiver. I do most of my listening in the tropical bands and the AM broadcast band in the evenings. I originally bought the unit to reduce some local power line noise, which the power company was not able to eliminate completely. My original antenna is about a 100 foot longwire antenna, coupled with a 9:1 balun, tuned for the lower bands. The LA30 received signals every bit as good as the 100 foot longwire, with the added benefit of significant noise reduction due to its directionality.
