Palstar's Command Technologies amplifiers now incorporate a microprocessor-based controller to provide more precise T/R and electronic bias sequencing. The amplifiers now feature true step-start, limiting in-rush current to the HV power supply and also to the tube filaments. This translates into greater reliability and tube life, since the HV rectifier, filter stack, tube filaments, and even the fuses, are not stressed on startup. The new keying interface is now opto-isolated and fully compatible with solid-state transceivers, requiring the transceiver's keying circuit to only sink 20mA @ 5VDC. The controller, HV power supply, and tuned input circuit boards are now fully silk-screened and solder-masked, with plug-in connections enabling them to be easily removed for repair or trade out. The Commander VHF-144 is a grounded grid, class AB2 linear power amplifier that operates on the Amateur 2 meter band (144 to 148 mHz). It features a single Eimac 3CPX800A7 pulse rated external anode triode with forced air cooling. Modern stripline circuitry ensures efficient and conservative operation. The front panel input tuning control allows a higher input circuit "Q" for excellent linearity and presents a low input VSWR to the exciter all across the entire 2 meter band. The Commander VHF-144 features a full compliment of control and metering functions for easy on-air operation. A dual primary power transformer allows 117VAC, 200VAC or 234VAC operation.
